Step-by-Step Application Guide
Working Conditions & Setup
First, verify that ambient and surface temperatures stay above 5°C (41°F). Position a raking light parallel to your wall to monitor shadows and surface consistency during application.
1. First Coat (Base Layer)
Apply a thick base coat using a metal trowel at approximately 800–1000 g/m² using visible, sweeping strokes. This layer creates an absorbent foundation for consecutive coats. Allow the surface to dry completely overnight.
2. Second Coat (Smoothing Layer)
Using a large metal trowel held at a 40° angle, apply 750–800 g/m² with a light touch to achieve a smooth, uniform base without creating shiny spots.
3. Final Polishing Coat (Wet-on-Wet)
As the second coat begins to dry, immediately apply a very thin layer (80–100 g/m²) in small 1 m² sections using a medium metal trowel held at a 30–35° angle. Work in alternating swipe directions to press marble granules into the underlying coat, then burnish to your desired level of sheen.
💡 Pro Tip: For exterior applications exposed to harsh weather, top-coat your cured Carrara plaster with a clear silane masonry sealer to lock out moisture without altering its breathable finish.
