TWO DAY MODERN DECORATIVE PLASTER CLASS USING TEXTURLINE CANADIAN PLASTERS AND GLAZES

The objective of this class is to show ways to create finishes that can duplicate traditional Italian plasters, using hybrid-based products, that are fast and easy to use. In most cases these finishes can be completed in a day. Which very useful when creating seamless texture in smaller areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. These areas usually are uneconomic labor wise due to the number of visits required. Mainly due to the drying times of lime-based alternatives currently available.

The old wife’s tale used by aficionados of traditional finishes is that they are heathier, because of the make up and contents of those systems. As we sell both we can talk to that argument. When our company created the first acrylic plaster back in 1990, we had success due to price. Our products installed then for half the price of slaked lime plasters imported from Italy. This was mainly due to fast installation times and was used extensively in commercial installations. We would like to clear up a basic argument which is more toxic, it goes without saying lime wins that one, as on any SDS, it’s shown to be corrosive, acrylic is not. When we formulated this plaster, the criterion was, be as close to traditional ingredients as possible without toxic corrosive contents. The components in both are the same marble flour, clay and binders, one with one without slaked lime. I get fed up with but there is a lot of acrylic binder in acrylic VP, the truth is, it’s the same amount under 3%. Also often asked why do we declare some VOC’s, the reason is we could be zero but we find it makes our plaster easier to apply and we need in our climate to be freeze thaw stable, by the way lime is not. I hope this cleared up some disinformation out there.

Each finish we teach has easy to follow steps from primer, plaster texture, colour and protective coating. I many cases when training we can start samples and finish all steps quickly, being dry in less than one hour.

These coatings are flexible and will not crack or peel. We can tint the products creating formulas so as to repeat the finish ad-finito.

Attached are proposed finishes, colors may change to accommodate specific requests by the group at the time.

On an average class we complete about 18 boards 24 x 16 inches on Masonite that is pre primed with our Sharktooth primer.

Though we prepare a full explanation of all steps, colors additives etc. You will be required to add your own comments, to fill any gaps in your understanding of how you completed the effect.

If you need the finished samples shipped, we can arrange that to your address.

The event is catered with snacks and a lunch as well as soft drinks, coffee and bottled water.

We limit the attendance maximum four students, so reserve early as this class can be overbooked fast. Classes are generally once a month. Small classes, allows us to be very hands on, helping to understand completely the application method.

Bring your own tools if possible and we will give you our opinion, to make sure they are the ones you need to apply properly.
